Dec '06

The website was launched with the name – BMSExcellence – on Dec ’06, 2006. More than 700 BMS and Ex-BMS visited the website on the day of launch.

Jul '07

Features like Announcement Blog (no longer exists; instead Announcement Forum is used for making all announcements), Spot BMS College (i.e college profiles) module, Contemplation for the Week (i.e. a weekly gyan in the MyZone area of user) were introduced in early Jul ’07 which added better functionality and the much nedded interactivity to the website.

Aug '07

Series of were features were introduced in Aug 2007.

• Users could now see the last 5 visitors to their profile (inspired by Orkut).
• Featured Article box (i.e. the big wide box that you see on the homepage highlighting the latest content on the website.
• My Class & My Friends box in the main profile page would now display 4 random pics.

Then on 20th of Aug 2008, after long, tedious and intricate brain storming, we rolled out Advertising Module which facilitated placing up of targeted ads for our sponsors across various sections of the website in variety of formats – text, graphics, text & graphics, flash and even video ads.

Post April, various features were introduced which did not fare as expected and are temporarily taken off are being redeveloped in our labs.

The D Day - BMSExcellence becomes BMSCampus

We create and we destroy, yet find pleasure in both.

We learnt early on that no matter with how much dedication we create something, if it needs to mutate to survive, then it should definitely undergo mutation.

But why?

BMSExcellence was named so because we believed in excellence is the way of life (note - the name of our company itself is "Excellence Group")

However the name which looked perfectly matching with our personal ideology - BMSExcellence led to email delivery problems. Our emails were being blocked by various service providers. We were perplexed for a while.

Then one find day, one of the bounce backed email gave following reason for non-delivery of emails - "Obscene content identified". Our tubelights turned on. On dissecting the domain name, we released the cause of the issue - BM[Sex]cellence.

The spam filters thought we are porn site (lolz).

We knew how large and popular we were becoming. It made sense to change the brand name when we were still young.

So finally on 21st of Apr 2008, we decided to make the shift from BMSExcellence to BMSCampus.

It was painful, tedicious and scary, but as they say, change is good. We came back with renewed vigour and a fresher look.

We also came up with newer identities:

1. A new logo with 6 different colored hands (it doesn't carry any significance; it was looking good and we thought it of having it) was introduced.
2. We also changed the website tag line from "Beyond Classrooms" to "Connecting BMS Community" - which aptly reflects the website's objective.

The Launch of Forum

BMSCampus came with a new motto – “connecting BMS community” and we introduced forums just for that. With introduction of forums, the community members could now share their views, opinions, discuss, debate, ask for help and much more…

BMSCampus Forum just like the entire website was technically purely home-grown.

The JOB Board

With an aim to connect corporates looking to hire fresh management graduates with BMS students, we introduced Job Board where recruiters can post detail of job openings. These job openings gets classified – zonewise, suburbwise, companywise and salary packagewise. Read more »

Jul '08

Size Does Matter

Right since beginning, the website was optimized for 800x600 px screen resolution. However, this meant wastage of precious screen real-estate as our almost 60% of our users were browsing on 1024x760 px screen resolution.

Hence we decided to make a major layout redo for a wider layout.

5000 Membership

BMSCampus community membership crosses 5000 milestone mark on 8th of Jul '08.

p.s.: the current membership base as we write this (5th Oct ‘08) has already crossed 7000 mark. What this means? We have added more than 2000 BMS student members in less than 3 months i.e. on an average, the website membership grew by 666 members in a month or approximately 22 members are joining the website every day.
