IELTS
(International English Language
Testing System) assesses the language ability of those who want to
study or work where English is the language of communication.
IELTS
conforms to the highest international standards of language assessment
and is managed by the University of Cambridge ESOL Examinations, the
British Council and IDP Education Australia.
IELTS is
recognised most universities in Australia, New Zealand, Canada, UK and
is being increasingly accepted & acknowledged in USA, Germany and wider
Europe.
Test
Pattern
IELTS tests has 2 modules:
- General Training
- Academic Training
Test is based on 4 broad sections.
- Listening - 40 minutes
- Reading - 1 hour
- Writing - 1 hour
- Speaking - 15 minutes
Marking
Marks in
IELTS are given in form of bands. There are 9 band levels. 1 for
non-user & 9 for expert user.
Different
band scores are received for each section. These band scores are added
and averaged for an overall band score. Each band also has a statement
giving summary of English at that level.
Meaning
of score
Scores
accepted vary from course to course & university to university. Score
from the range of 5.0 to 7.5 is normal minimum scores expected. Most
common band requirement is of 6 to 6.5.
A band of
9 is considered excellent meaning the test-taker is an expert with
virtually fully operational command of the language, is accurate and
fluent with complete understanding.
How
often can one take the exam? One can
retake the test if one is not satisfied with the current score but not
before three months of the first test date.
How long are IELTS scores valid?
Test scores are valid for two years.
What are the fees of the exam?
The IELTS Fees are in the range of Rs.6500.
